Dicabasan ES, Diniog NHS harvest gold in initial Gulayan sa Paaralan evaluation

Dicabasan Elementary School and Diniog National High School both reaped first place in the search for the best Gulayan sa Paaralan contest for the district elementary and secondary level respectively during the initial evaluation conducted last Dec. 16-17.

In the elementary level, Diagyan ES and Dianao ES landed second and third respectively, while in the secondary level, Diagyan NHS and Dilasag NHS placed second and third respectively.

All participating schools had their fair share of strategies like using recycled plastics as pots, and using malunggay, katuray, papaya, and alocon as fences.

Gulayan sa Paaralan Managers also showcased their skills in making organic fertilizers which should be used in the school gardens.

Charito P. Lomboy, EPSvr in-charhed for Gulayan sa Paaralan stated that teachers, parents and other community stakeholders played a large part in the preparation of the Gulayan sa Paaralan this year because there are no students in the school who are supposed to help develop the garden during regular school days.

One of the highlights of the Gulayan sa Paaralan is the establishment of crop museums where indigenous plants and vegetables such as pako or edible fern, amsi, siling labuyo, olibas, and the like, which are preserved.

Meanwhile, the harvests from the gardens will still be used in the feeding programs of the schools.

Each household is also highly encouraged to have backyard gardens to sustain food for the families in this time of pandemic.

The final evaluation of the Gulayan sa Paaralan will be conducted on January 2021.
